On January 13, 2018, in Villacidro (province of Medio Campidano), Gianluigi Deidda was attacked and insulted by the organizers of bonfires in honor of Sant’Antonio Abate. He was documenting with the camera a joint intervention by the forest police and the municipal police to check that no material which produces harmful smoke was being burnt. The agents were to drive off the aggressors. “To carry out this profession, which deserves respect, now more and more often, we need a protection service”, the journalist told Ossigeno per l’Informazione.
PRECEDENTS – From 2011 to today, in Sardinia, Ossigeno has detected 56 serious violations of the freedom of the press and of expression committed with illicit acts, acts of violence, and abuse against journalists, bloggers, video operators, photo reporters, publishers, whose names are published in the Observatory’s Table. In 2017, 5 names were added to this list.
