The journalist Giovanni Scarpa, reporter of the daily newspaper La Provincia Pavese, has been under investigation for personal favours since 5 January. After a shed was burnt to the ground, he phoned an investigative source for information on a surveillance camera installed nearby by the police. The Public Prosecutor of Pavia asked him to reveal the identity of his source. Giovanni Scarpa opposed professional secrecy.
