In January 2019 Ossigeno has identified one threat a day
Rome, 23rd January 2019 – In the first fifteen days of 2019 Ossigeno per l’Informazione has identified and rigorously documented fifteen unjustifiable threats and intimidation directed to Italian journalists and bloggers in order to hinder the dissemination of news of public interest. In the same period, the Observatory also identified other thirteen intimidations deemed “very probable” but not yet submitted to the thorough verification necessary to certify their veracity. The names of the targeted journalists and bloggers and the details of each of the 28 episodes are listed in the newsletter published on the Ossigeno.info website and circulated to subscribers.
In addition to these data, the newsletter presents the international comments (including that of the international journalists’ union which defines the situation of the Italian newspapers as “dramatic”) on the neo-Fascist attack on 7th January in Rome on the journalist and the photojournalist of L’Espresso; the victory of Ossigeno’s Free Legal Aid Office which obtained the setting aside of the lawsuit against the journalist Gabriele Cocchi and the developments in the trial at the Court of Assizes in Pavia for the killing of the photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli.
